Dada/Surrealism is pleased to invite submissions for two forthcoming special numbers:

Dada, Surrealism, and Romania (Editors: Monique Yaari and Timothy Shipe). Details

“Wonderful Things”: Surrealism and Egypt (Guest editors: Patricia Allmer and Donna Roberts). Details

Dada/Surrealism is an interdisciplinary journal publishing critical essays, bibliographies, book reviews, and primary documents on the Dada and Surrealist movements. Submissions are encouraged from scholars in Art History, Literature, Film Studies, Theater Arts, and a variety of other disciplines. We are especially receptive to contributions that use interdisciplinary techniques, reexamine basic concepts, or raise theoretical issues of contemporary interest.

Dada/Surrealism began publication in 1971 as the journal of the Association for the Study of Dada and Surrealism, an allied organization of the Modern Language Association. Issued in print from 1971 to 1990, numbers 1-9 were published chiefly at Queens College under the editorship of Mary Ann Caws, and numbers 10-18 were published at the University of Iowa under the joint editorship of Mary Ann Caws and Rudolf E. Kuenzli.

Dada/Surrealism is now being revived as a peer-reviewed, open-access electronic journal sponsored by the Association for the Study of Dada and Surrealism and published by the International Dada Archive, University of Iowa Libraries. An initial call for contributions is planned for Fall of 2010 with the aim of resuming an annual publication schedule in 2011.

The complete contents of numbers 1-18 are listed on this website, but for a variety of reasons, only selected articles are available here as full-text documents. Back issues of the print journal are available for purchase.
